Clinical audit, Professional Competence and CPD made easy with WestREN and iPCRN

Clinical Audit at the touch of a button!

Professional Competence (PC) requirements for all GPs include an annual CLINICAL AUDIT.

All WestREN members can now avail of a comprehensive automated diabetes audit. This has been developed in conjunction with the Irish Primary care Research Network http://www.ipcrn.ie/ an innovative collaboration between WestREN, the ICGP and the HRB Primary Care Centre.

Currently available in the following practice software systems: Socrates, Complete GP and MedTEch. A short podcast demonstrating the tool is available here .

At the touch of a button within your own practice software system, you can generate a comprehensive overview of your own diabetic care in comparison to your peer group. This report  is confidential to you  and all data used to generate this report is irrevocably anonymised to satisfy the strictest data protection guidelines.

We have successfully piloted this process now with a group of GPs from across the country. A sample report is attached as an example of what is generated for each individual practice.

This report when repeated at a second time point can be used to fulfil the requirements for clinical audit as well as generate a significant proportion of the internal CPD points required for professional competence (see final page of sample report). 

The Professional Competence process does appear daunting at first but we hope initiatives such as that outlined above should make the process much more straight forward, relevant and useful for ourselves and our patients. We plan to roll out further automated audits in the coming months to members.
