Implementing Transnational Telemedicine Solutions

Remote Speech Therapy services through the use of videoconferencing project are now in the implementation process. Following on models that have been established in Sweden and Scotland, this service will help reduce travel and increase accessibility for those in remote areas. This project could not have happened without the cooperation of Rena Lyons, the Head of the Speech and Language Therapy Discipline at NUI Galway and Catherine Flynn from the HSE Community Speech Therapy Department.

Biomnis Healthcare Awards 

 Primary Care Initiative

One of the ITTS connected health projects 'Smartphones for Monitoring and Promoting Physical Activity' was shortlisted for the Biomnis Healthcare Innovation Awards in 2012. The project promotes self efficacy by using a smartphone application similar to a pedometer to allow the participant to monitor and improve their daily activity. Feedback from the programme has been very positive with the majority of participants expressing "an immediate increase in the awareness of their level of activity".
